What this site is
Malta Hire Cost provides a free online calculator that estimates the total statutory cost to an employer of employing someone in Malta, together with a set of guides explaining minimum wage, employer registration, statutory bonus/COLA and part-time employment costs.

The calculator and guides are an information resource. They produce estimates and general explanations based on published statutory rates for the year shown. None of it is tax advice, legal advice, payroll advice, employment-law advice or an accounting service. Using this site does not create any professional or client relationship, and no duty of care arises from the figures or explanations it provides.
Accuracy and limitations
Rates are taken from the Malta Tax & Customs Administration 2026 income tax tables, the 2026 Class 1 social security contribution rates, and the Department for Industrial and Employment Relations rules on statutory bonuses and weekly allowances.
Statutory rates change, normally each January, and errors are possible. The calculator assumes a standard full-time employee aged 18 or over. It excludes overtime, allowances, fringe benefits, health insurance, training, equipment, recruitment fees, accrued unused leave and any sector-specific obligations under a Wage Regulation Order.
Always confirm figures with a qualified Maltese payroll accountant before making a hiring decision, issuing an employment contract or submitting a return. To the fullest extent permitted by law, no liability is accepted for any loss arising from reliance on these estimates.
